Identity Essentials

For my topic I picked "the essence of gender". I decided to take photographs of things dat a girl normaly has. Most of these things are cosmestics or "materialistic" things.

111 and 33 Final

These are the final photos of the 111 and 33 projects. I really liked how they turned out, at first I wasnt planning to matt them them but I thought it they would just look better. The 111 was made with charcoal and the smudges on create a cool feeling to it. I really liked how it turned out. The 111 was also a lot easier to make because it was all intentional as opposed to the 33 project. I tried so hard to not make the squigly lines not look so intentional. This was my 6th try!!

111 Progress

I made this one with charcoal, and charcoal pencil hoping that it would smudge too much. I had to use the charcoal in order to make some lines darker. It does look a little messy on some parts but I plan to clean it up with an eraser

33 Progress

So far my 33 project is the closest to being finished. I'm creating the project with the india ink on charcoal paper, since I'm using charcoal for my other project I wanted to see how well the ink looked on that type of paper. I did a lot of expirimenting with the paper and ink and used different materials to make the random lines. I also plan to cut the paper so that it looks more rectangular rather than square. These four are the best, in my opinion. I don't know whether to choose one or start over completely.

Modular Madness Final Photo

This is the final picture of my modular madness project. The form is hanging just above the ground because at first I intended to have the piece on the ground. Due to its many balance issues I decided to hang it. The piece is also at a tilt and when it spins it looks as if it is swirling down. I think the piece had a much more dramatice effect once it had been hung. I think it lost some of its "snowman" shape, which was good. If i had to do this project I would use the cups in a different way.

Photo Assignment

This photo was taken because I love to take pictures of my little sister when she's doing embarrasing things. In this photo she was "whipping her hair back and forth" to the song by Willow Smith. I thought it was hilarious and decided to take a picture so dat I could post it on facebook. I chose this photo for the assignment because my sister is someone who I'm always  taking pictures of, and when I look at this picture I still see her doing her dance. The picture is supposed to capture movement, and I think only blurry pictures can do that. I think the blurriness in the picture emphasizes the fact dat she was moving her head around. I also chose to take this picture from an upper angle so that I could capmuter her whole body. I keep this pcture because it's fun see the random tings my sister does!
This is a piture of me attempting to read twilight. My friends are always teasing me because I don't like to read. My frriend snaped this picture of me reading the book upside down, because I'm always the one doing dumb things like this. The book is not even the real twilight book its a book full of pictures from the movie and fun facts, which made this all funnier at the time. The picture looks like a normal girl reading a book until you see the words upside down. This is supposed to be a funny picture, of course I intended to have the book upside down, but since it looks so casual people might not notice that at first.

This picture has everyone looking down at the camera, and the people are of different racial backgrounds. To me this picture represents friendship, or different people coming together. This picture has been done over and over again. A group of people in a cricle with their arms around each other. This is mainly done by groups of close friends. I chose it for this assignment because I like the picture. I like the angle of it as well as the meaning. Friendship is such an important thing, especially in kids our age. I probably won't remember seeing this exact picture in many years but its the meaning that makes it more powerful.
I don't have my camera with me this week so I cant put up any pictures yet!.... :O

Modular Progress

I decided to use styrofoam cups for my modular madness project. I thought it would be cool to glue them to form different size circles. It started to look like a snowman wen I stacked them together. At first it was easy to glue the cups together, but then some started ungluing so it got a little frustrating.

Word as Image

For one word as image project, the theme of it was "fly far", and I put the words in the shape of a wing. On the image with the words representing the opposite, I found phrases that were the opposite  from peaceful. At first i was gonna try to find peaceful words but there is nothing but the opposte in the newspapers. I decided to use this to my advantage. :D

Carboard Shell Final

This is the final photo of the shell. I put cradboard paper over it because it allowed me to give the shell some texture. I tried so hard to make it pop out more but the cardboard was being difficult! Overall i tried my hardest to get the shell look like the real one. I will probably re-do this project but with a different object

I think all of my photographs are basic patterns. The last one is the only one that looks like a texture. I had an easier time finding patterns in clothing and fabric than just out in the open!

Cardboard Shell

I first picked this shell because it looked simple. Doing this project has made me realize that nothing is simple. It was very hard for me to make the shell look circular but its coming along!

Human dot photos

At first i didn't know whether to take the dot exercise literally or figuratively. Would I have actual circles representing the dots or other objects as dots? In the end i decided to have both. This exercisese helped me think about what I wanted the viewer to pay attention to. It was also fun looking for and creating compositions that fit my inital dot papers.

Newspaper Tower

The assignment was to build something out newspaper that could hold a cinder block. The challenge was to get the cinder block as high as the ground as possible. At first I had no idea how to even start this assignment but I looked around and saw everybody else seemed to know what they were doing. I decided to start rolling paper. After I had a few rolls of newspapers I jus glued them together. Then I jus started randomly folding and stacking paper. All of a sudden i had no more paper left. When I got some paper, I started rolling it again. The time flew by and suddenly it was lunch time. I feel like I did a pretty good job for my first day.
